Recycling Pallets
Based on an EPA study, 95% wood pallets are recycled. That is the best recycling rate of all packaging materials. Furthermore, for every trailer load of pallets recycled, 13.50 metric tons of CO2 emissions are reduced. That equivalent to taking 46 cars off the road!
Recycling Paper
Each ton of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4,000 kilowatts of energy and 7,000 gallons of water!
Recycling Plastic
Clean plastics sell for as much as 6 time more than mixed plastics. As a rule of thumb, distribution centers generate 1.5 times more plastic out of trucks returning from retail sites than they do from their own internal processes. For this reason, companies who separate plastics at the store level can expect to incur a higher rate of compensation for waste plastics while spending less labor at the distribution center.
Recycling Food Waste
One third of all food produced in the world is lost or wasted between the farm and the fork. It is estimated that 6% of global greenhouse gas emissions come form food waste.
Zero Waste Programs
According to a recent IBM study, 60% of consumers surveyed said that they are willing to change their shopping habits to reduce environmental impact. Furthermore, of the nearly 80% of respondents who said sustainability is important to them, over 70% said they would pay a premium of 35% to be more sustainable.
